Activities

  • Hiking

A Levada hike can be started directly from the house. The section to Calheta is about 14 km long and is ideal for a day trip. The levada leads again and again through eucalyptus forests, so that one also speaks of the "eucalyptus levada". The comfortable, mostly shady path is varied and entertaining due to the lush vegetation. Overall, this levada has a length of 50 km.
  • Mountain biking

Prazeres and the surrounding area is also very popular with cyclists, especially mountain bikers. In particular, the "Blackline Prazeres" and the "Redline Prazeres" are well known to ambitious athletes (https://www.trailforks.com/trails/blackline-prazeres/)
  • Excursions

Of course, Prazeres can also be used as a base for exploring the beautiful island of Madeira. The beach of Calheta, where there are also various shops, can be reached in just a few minutes. Regarding a rental car or the possibilities of using public transport, we will be happy to help you.
  • Dolphin and whale watching

Calheta, just a few kilometers away, offers dolphin and whale watching boat tours that are not to be missed.

Environment

In the village there is everything you need. A supermarket is within walking distance. There are also cozy restaurants that can be reached in a few minutes, where typical Portuguese and Madeiran specialties are offered.
Most of the restaurants are frequented by locals, which is an unmistakable sign of quality.

The Quinta Pedagógica dos Prazeres, ( www.prazeresdaquinta.pt ), which can be reached in just a few minutes on foot from our house, was founded on October 1st, 2000 and is a project for education, socio-cultural development and rural development.

The aim is to preserve regional plants and traditional recipes by transforming the fruits and herbs into products such as cider, apple cider vinegar, liqueurs, jams, dried foods, preserves, wholemeal flour, herbs or infusions, the quality of which is universally recognized by consumers as well by national and international institutions.
Handmade and natural products, based on local tradition and identity but with an innovative character.

It has a farm with animals, orchards, herb gardens, a small botanical garden, a herbarium and a museum center, this one with the bequest of the naturalist P. Manuel de Nóbrega, and an art gallery (Galeria dos Prazeres).
The Quinta is a popular destination for families with children. Small church festivals with auctions of the most beautiful roosters in town bring in some money for the upkeep of the small zoo.

Sustainability
Almost everything that is needed for the preparation of food is produced in Madeira. Eggs, meat, milk, fruit, vegetables, etc. come exclusively from farmers on the island. Only spices are bought from import
